    Thanks Jamie –

One of the many things that has struck me since becoming a practitioner is timing … and once again that has occurred. I know that has to do with filters changing etc and that makes it more exciting for me.

I am about to go on holiday (yay) and am looking forward to exploring new places for me and during that break from my job I am going to be looking at some of the limiting beliefs that I hold about myself regarding relationships … or my perception of those anyway ;-)

I appreciate you sharing your “a-ha” moment at this time …

    Hi Jamie,

I really appreciate this. Thank you very much for this valuable information, that too free! I have attended a seminar for NLP but frankly I still couldn’t delineate exactly what I wanted and get over some of my “limiting beleifs.” After viewing this video I’m very hopeful and feel I’ve got a direction how to arrive at that! Thanks again!

Wish you all the very best in life!!!

    Hi there Jaimie,

Thank you for sharing this with us, it’s great that you offer so much material for free; this has certainly reeled me in and I value your output!

It’s conjured up all kinds of questions for me, some of which I were going to pose to you, but I think it will be more beneficial to explore them myself.

Sleight of mouth seems a very interesting skillset, I have always wanted to know ways of helping people that may be too skeptical of psychotherapy or too set in their ways, to be open to real change.

    Thanks again,

All those questions got me right away thinking about my fear of public speaking. I trained as an actor and was a pretty good one too but the moment it was me up there speaking, as me – I would crumble and stutter and get nervous and go red. It would be like an internal battle was raging between my rational mind and my subconscious (which would be screaming for me to run away and hide)… for the first time I’m wondering what it is that my subconscious thinks it’s helping me with by doing that. Thanks for giving me the insight to try to work this through!

    Hi Jamie
As a veteran of NLP myself since 1984 and having studied with Dilts it is totally refreshing to get a vlog entry of this quality.

It was good to get a sense of your passion for and belief in the language patterns you talked about – and that it is contageous is clear to see from the comments left for you so far – what does it for me is the consummate ease by which you explain it and the texture of your voice. Apart from the NLP-specific audience to which it seems aimed, this would be of great benefit to the development of any presenter of information looking to inspire and encourage as well as positively influence others.

    Ciao Jamie,
I just came back from a job interview for a very exiting and challenging position. After talking to the CEO of the company I was even a bit chocked about how much responsibility this job requires and was surprised that I was one of the few who got to the interview.

Anyway, I came back from the interview excited but at the same time saying to myself that it’s not for me – I just couldn’t handle the position. And at the same time still saying “wouldn’t it be just fab to work in that company and in that position”.

The first thing I did when I got home, was opened my inbox and found your letter there. It’s just what I need at this moment. I’m off to excplore these questions right now eager to have answers to them. So THANK YOU, Jamie. Hope to learn more about this in upcoming days.

    Dear Jamie:

I am quite delighted to finally be able to picture you and your vibrant energy each time ill get one of those jamie smart emails ;)

I appreciate this video. i know of many times that i “sabbotaged” myself all the while, it had a good intention. No regrets either because i wouldnt be where i am today!

i have many wants, all deeply related to projects to make money that in turn are things to make life better for people hahaha…(own my own business mindset) I spend money on machinery and proceed to do nothing like i dont want to fail… so i fail by doing nothing. (i see how self talk made that happen ;) When i think of education like NLP in toronto i come up broke… like the resale value in a machine i must not be seeing how valuable ill be to people once im educated… or like how ill get paid ;) since i can resale the machines for more… strange i dont do that more… i feel the need to keep them when i always find better….

Im taking a Social service worker course at our college, I realise the material we are learning… although somewhat usefull is dated thinking. and should be NLP and EFT… Here in ontario you have to be registered as a SSW to get your foot in the door at these helping agencies( GOV funded) If i do this, get a bit more schooling to get a BSW i can have a private practice that is (gov funded) so i can help people and not worry about being paid by them. Its either that or have another source of income that doesnt eat up time best used on others.

haha i love how your video gets me thinking more concrete and specific.
I recommend EFT its amazing. i in a sense stole the course so now i know its worth having paid for.. it blows my SSW material out of the water… so does nlp… finding the material is hopefully just timing.. either that or i need to really get motivated to make money to pay for everything… please look into it. it will be something you will help people with. :)

    looking forward to more
and thanks,, ill be on a different train of thought all day :)

I am sure you know but I want to encourage you anyways, that what you do is really so precious… and valuable… for me, personally. Like never before I am open to accept that I have dreams and desires, and its ok to have them. Now I finally am able to perceive what exactly is holding me back. When you said start thinking about those I can’t s, I didn’t think I could formulate them, but I took a piece of paper and actually did… They were several but it turned out the theme was one and the same. So, now I will see how I am going to deal with it… :) I will work some more on accepting them, but I can’t get a story about them. I have no idea how they came about to be. Anyways, I will give it some more thinking..
Wanted to thank you personally! and tell you that my life is starting to change, and indeed like the previous postings… everything seems to come in just such a good timing!!! Incredible! I can only say: Praise God for this! :) :):)

This was great timing! I was just last night asking a therapist (I’m that desperate! :-) how to choose which of my goals to focus on. I have so many, and they are all important. The therapist was, not surprisingly, pretty useless. But this video offered me a useful way to approach that decision making process, and helped me clarify my most important goal. So thanks muchly for sharing this.

I am curious, though, about my limiting belief that I discovered while watching the video. What would you say to someone who’s got the limiting belief that “I can’t help people who don’t want to be helped.”?

Finally, and somewhat unexpectedly, I’d like to point out that it’s a limiting belief to think that being homeless can’t help you get what you want. I’m homeless right now (and have been for the past month), and I’m getting more of what I want and need now than I did when I had a home. Honestly! Being homeless gives you a sort of freedom that you don’t have when you’re tied to a place, and it opens you up to discovering how helpful and caring complete strangers can be when given a change, and how bountiful the universe really is when you look in the places you might never have considered going. I’m not saying that you have to be homeless to be free (and I’d certainly love to have a home if I could find one that welcomed me and was healthy for me to be in), but I am saying that you can definitely let go of that particular limiting belief and see how EVERYTHING you do when you’re walking the path to where you truly desire to go is far better than anything else you could do, even if it comes as a surprise to you how much you enjoy it.

It’s amazing how sometimes one can learn far more from a relatively short video clip than one can learn from a whole book on a particular subject.

In the bouncer story you completely wrong footed him as he was expecting an argument in which he was prepared for and the answer was an automatic “No”. You made him need to think of a reason to ruin the get together and as there was no anger or demands from you his automatic “No” shield was off line.

I wonder if you can help me with my problem? I love NLP and want to become a NLP therapist to help others, but first I have to help myself.

Thanks Jamie; I read recently in an article on creativity that when presented with a test for creativity by NASA 5-year old children showed up as highly creative (98%). By the time they were 10 their scores had halved and by college this was down to 19%. Adults showed a creativity level of nearer 2%. The hypothesis was that we are conditioned by our education and society to conform and not to be creative – we don’t need to creat our own limiting beliefs – it’s done for us! Let’s all fight back!

Once again you have come up trumps – I feel that I know you personally now and look forward to meet you one day.

The very generous session was very thought provoking and I do recognise some of the limiting beliefs that I have taken on board about myself. Sleight of mouth s something that you really are great at, and it’s definatley something worth me spending time to practice. Did you recommend once to practise each day?

You asked for feedback – The content was brilliant, and I noticed that you hardly stopped for a new sentence. lots of “and” and is that intentional?

It was great that you kindly showed us all your books (do you speed read) and that you recommended specific books. I have read some of them (Richard Branson / Michael Neale) and they were great. I understand that you were videoing in your office. I wonder if the background can distract from listening and watching you.

    Changing submodalities
Sleight of Mouth patterns to practise

so i agree with your theory wich says that a limiting belief is just a belief itself, and i wonder how to totally isolate that limiting belief once and for all , in order to access to the deep essence of my energy, you know just like james bond character, who can turn any situation to his advantage, just by observing his environement thanks to his high consience level of his internal and external strong energies !!!
i know its a long shot, but i fell if you give me the answer i could be far more better than james bond himself ( that’s what i want !!! ).

    Hi Jamie,
WOW that was amazing! I feel like I just had a personal coaching session with you…

So to complete that picture, I have a few things that I would like to ask:
For me the map is not so clear, I just dont really feel that map in me and I like to believe that I dont need one, because I dont want to be limited by it, so that metaphoor is not really getting into my brain. Is there any other way to explain /explore this?

Same here with the limiting beliefs when you first mentioned those I was like, well I dont have any, because that would limit me and I dont want that…I like to believe that as long as you really want it you can do anything.

So here I am sitting in the bahamas, but not really being happy and not doing the thing that I really want to do, which we explored with all the “what do you want” questions… so I figured there must be something why I am not there and I guess that would be limiting beliefs, but I just dont like the sound of that, when I asked myself what are my limiting beliefs I said I have none because that would not be very productive.

Eventually I wrote down some of my I can’ts let me share some of them
I dont have the money to go to a good NLP session
I cant get a loan for the project which is what I really want to do because I did call some banks and they dont give a loan without you having a house or something which I dont have.

So this is very real for me…

I would love to explore that a bit deeper to find other ways around those things, because I know that there are other ways, but I guess my brain doesnt really want to go there yet for some reason.

Also another thought I want to share with you is the fact that I always thought I should be able to coach myself, you see I know the questions and I know what to ask next, however for some reason that just doesnt work for me, ( I guess that is another limiting belief?)
So this is a great help, because I just pause the video and it feels like you are asking me personally these questions.

So thank you so much I really appreciate it!

You sem to have a way to shred the sentences up and bring it across in a more interesting way that actually makes us think properly about these and address them to the point.

Thank you so much for this free video. I am revising my skills and knowledge on belief change this week and I am going to have a class on belief on tomorrow morning. I really appreciate your work and this coincidence. After becoming a practitioner, I often think that I am not really capable of being so because I have my own problems. Knowing that an alcoholic can be so successful, I would have a new evaluation on my own. I would also bring your suggested questions to my class.

    Thanks Jamie,

This was one of those ‘what you need comes to you when you need it’ moments for me. I’m impressed with how much you packed into a 22 minute video but in such a relaxed way. My ‘I can’t’ was definiitely getting in the way of my ‘I want’ – I’m making friends with that positive intention and we are moving forward together as of now.

Wow! I enjoyed that much more than I thought I would. It stimulated useful thoughts. However I wonder if you can say something about shifting your mindset when you are chronically ill and everything seems exhausting? I’ve been ill with various things since childhood and it has become a default position.
I know I have the ability to overcome weakness when I am strongly motivated, taking two years to do a one year postgrad degree for example. Now, having beaten five permanent disabilities, I’ve been stopped short by a labyrinthine inflammation for nearly a year. I know others with similar problems, but so much about NLP appears only suitable for able bodied people.
From what you have said it is probably a script written in childhood. Have you a question that will get past the defence mechanisms?

Thanks for all your lovely ideas. Jane xxx

    Thank you Jamie,

    For your valuable video.

Perhaps you know the story of the famous scientist who was giving a lecture about the solar system, and how the various forces that hold the earth in its orbit work.

After the lecture, he was approached by a little old woman who said to him, “Sonny, you’ve got it all wrong. Every one knows that the earth is held on the shoulders of the giant, Atlas.”

So, the scientist asked a question to show her where she was wrong. “What then, he asked, is Atlas standing on?”

“On a giant turtle”, she replied.

“And, what’s under the turtle?”, he asked patiently.

    “Why, another turtle, of course!”

    “And what’s under that turtle?”

    “Why, another turtle, of course!”

    “And under that turtle?”

She then replied with an air of finality.

“Sonny, it’s turtles all the way down.”

Jamie, are beliefs like this, as well, do you think? Do you experience it all as “belief”, or do you sometimes experience “knowledge”? If you experience knowledge, is it different from “belief”. What happens when you penetrate the barrier of knowledge?

I sometimes express my self in pictures. Do you believe in visual beliefs? I am now going to my blog, http://e-collage.blogspot.com to put one up for you to see, if you wish. I call it “New Beginning”, for now.

With gratitude for sharing your knowledge and understanding, Robert

It seams to me that I need a motivation to change my beliefs to ones that logically make more sense and are more beneficial for me. I think that the lack of motivation is becuase I cannot decide what it is that I want for myself…

I recently discovered your website and have ordered all 5 decks of your cards.
My initial interest in NLP came from wanting to improve my skills as a salesperson. I ended up in sales as a result of people telling me how great I was with people, knew it was lucrative and have been doing it uncomfortably for over 20 years, knowing my heart and talents lie elsewhere. I completed 500 hours of training recently to become a hypnotherapist. My beliefs and spirituality are centered in the metaphysical and I am a constant student of information and reinforcement through reading and exposure to this teaching. I know from training it can not only lie in your intellect but must be attached to your emotions and belief that surround your thoughts. Your
information is great and it is one more step to bring me closer and a more effective hypnotherapist. My frustration lies in knowing what I know and taking action with confidence. Somewhere along the line, I have created my own doubts and fears as I was raised with parents that were supportive, encouraging and positive. Other people’s perception of me is one of a confident well adjusted woman but I know I still have many limiting beliefs I am working on. I want to help people get out of their own way and create the life they desire but I know I need to do this for myself as well. Listening to your story and others helps build that confidence that I can accomplish what I want as well. I want very much to add formalized NLP training to my learning experience but don’t have the funds currently to enroll in a program. Thank you for making your information available for me to continue on my path. The cards are great as it is helping me gain confidence with language to help increase my effectiveness for others. I am moving forward (slowly) in establishing my practice and your story and honesty helps serve as reinforcement as I step into something entirely new. Thank you again for sharing.

I have been successful at times, also with changing my own beliefs but still often feel like what i want to achieve is too surreal. Perhaps i could stop trying to be a bonsai and become a jungle.

By the way…i have quit smoking after 10 years not too long ago. One of my dearest friends is still a smoker but wishes to stop. How can i use NLP to allow him to feel some aversion to smoking? Also, what is a good way to anchor that aversion for him while simply speaking to him?

    Hi Jamie,

I love the way you explain things.

Your post came at a great time (of course). Having discovered some new things about myself through the use of EFT (I greatly recommend this: http://www.emofree.com), your question about “I can’t” just brought my thinking further. Here is how it goes:

    - I can’t fail because if I do people will know I am a fraud
    - I can’t win because I am a fraud so it would not make sense for me to succeed.

Of course I am not a fraud. This all stems back from my birth and the fact that my mother lost a child before having me. I guess I decided to replace that child so my parents could be happy again. Ever since I have been afraid of being discovered and sent back. I am on to new great things now, because what I have been doing so far as a fraud was already not bad at all, thanks!

I’ve been a hypnotherapist for five years and have experienced a lot of informative teaching and processes from some truly amazing mentors and teachers. However, I can honestly say that, your methodology and approach is absolutely ‘pitch perfect’ in that, you not only impart valuable knowledge, in an easily grasped way, but also make it ’sticky’ by virtue of your enthusiasm for the subject.
    Hats off to you!
    paul.

  77. 77

Of the many topics I’ve fantasized about seeing you explain, I have one that I know you have expertise in, but I only recall one mention of it in the talks I’ve bought from Salad.

The topic is kids, specifically young kids (my 4 year old granddaughter in this case) and, perhaps, helping them get over beliefs that both cause them distress, and make it hard on the parents.

An example: My granddaughter is 4, with a 1 year old brother. I’ve recently visited them for a couple weeks, and observed that every time a parent leaves (goes out of the house), she will first try and forbid them to go, then make them promise to return, and also often make them promise to return “before it get’s dark”, etc. I won’t go over all of the obvious items here (to make this shorter).

My question revolves around simplifying the language, questions, etc. to “talk with them”. I’m not an NLP practitioner, and anyways, I don’t actually live there. So, a couple of formula scripts would help out my daughter to start learning this, and to explore the issues with my granddaughter. Clear?

Anyway, that’s my wish for a follow up “20 minute” parenting video.

Ah, most important. Very many thanks for all the good things you’re doing to help others, to help us. Thanks!

    Dear Jamie,

thanks a lot, I find your emancipatory work really great and so much needed. Would also appreciate, some more focus on relationships, cause I think that on some level, it must be that I got used to believe that I can`t ever be happy and loved by a non-understandable creature – man – so as I am ( I also think that I am not alone in this regard, but it is more sincere to speak about yourself).

Or another suggestion: belief that I can never perform quite good at the moment, which also mostly serves to postpone the really good presentation ad inf. And it comes with the tendency to postpone all other seizable things as well and do it all together “some day”. Lasy beauty – so to say…

It was great to have all the emails summed up in a video. It has been a pleasure to read your emails since 2003. The new site looks great.

Please accept some advice on the way your home office furniture is placed. You should change the way your desk is facing so that you have the back to the wall and have a clear view of the door.

That way the day light would “hit” the desk from the left. The feng shui will work for you and that way you can focus on the work at the PC, be it Salad or anything else. Karen Kingston’s book “Clear your clutter with Feng Shui” can be highly recommended. A second edition is coming out later in 2008. The website is http://www.spaceclearing.com

I listened to that question you gave the bouncer carefully. And I noticed you had an embedded command, a reason why, and and you transitioned his truth (it’s not negotiable), into your but transition to get an opening for an embedded command and the reason why attached to it.

Awesome way to just sneak that in there. And I was catching your nested loops as well to keep people interested in all the stories you combined with your lessons. Very powerful indeed. I’ll be watching this more to break down everything further, but it was a great lesson. And a wonderful aid in my studies to break down your conversation. Thanks

Can see a whole lot of things in what you were saying. Good engaging nested stories that I only realised when you got back to the bouncer story ending. Excellent stuff.

‘Sleight of Mouth’ does have some negative connotations which is why Michael Hall’s book on Communication Magic calls it Mind-Lines. (That book is interesting too, albeit somewhat repetitive and academic feeling.) Would be good to discuss this aspect more. Like how do you convince a close friend that you are not going to manipulate them, consciously or unconsciously?

    Hi Jamie,
A wonderful metaphorical presentation from which everybody can benefit. It also takes great courage to open your heart to the world, this makes you really special!
You mentioned distillation of material or a key to belief change. To those who are interested in other areas of learning, keys or the beginning of a process is a jump start and avoids unnecessary waste of learning time. However, to fully understand the importance of the key, one has to appreciate the whole subject matter. One is very fortunate to meet the right teacher who can communicate this. You are one of those I have met/come across in my life.
To give you an example what I am talking about in other areas is, for instance drawing or painting: The key is the first line. In sculpture it is the first plane. In a letter it is the first sentence, and so I could go on. Everything that follows relates to the first thought followed by action.
    Kind regards.

Excellent video, after training with Richard Bandler and and experiencing the way he uses
language that made me so want to be able to use sleight of mouth patterns the way he
does.If my memory serves me correctly he said that he no longer uses older models
like six step reframing using “sleight of mouth” instead, they are quicker. They also
bypass a lot of the fears and misconceptions about NLP/hypnosis that people have
allowing you to “lets just have a chat” and assisting them.Your video taught me a few
different ways to ask questions as well.Great stuff.Your books you showed, love Michael
Neils work,Robert Anton Wilson (may the Goddess rest his soles) a genius,4 hour
working week love it,Osho lovely spiritual trickster.
Lots of other things i would like to learn.
Some effective self hypnosis techniques.Time distortion especially to accelerate learning
    NLP and hypnosis.Hypnotic ways to achieve a very uptime state,see more,hear more,feel
more.I’ve seen RB use language to take people back and forward along a timeline adding
resources, disassociating and reassociating them in a sentence or two, brief therapy or
torpedo therapy, lets have that skill as well.I would like to learn modelling properly, not the
stratergy stuff that keeps been diguised as modelling.I want to learn all of NLP PASSIONATELY,i’m loving it.
    More please Jamie
Thanks for taking the time to do this,

Since I am an NLP trainer myself and Time Line Therapy master trainer, it is always interesting to hear other NLP brains working and some time to pick up their brains. That is what I am going to do next time when I teach or with a client. This twenty minutes put together the stuff, I thought I know so well, in a way that makes everything simple and very accessible, to me as atrainer and to the students. In Time Line Therapy we have wonderful way to work with limiting beliefs, nevertheless your way of asking questions is amazing. Thank you. Looking forward to hear from you. Lily

Thanks so much Jamie. I had dropped NLP until I found your letter in the inbox, and felt a very POWERFUL urge to read it. Well, it was mind blowing. I was able to recognize my limiting beliefs. I have a strange phobia, I’m afraid of walking, yes, WALKING if there isn’t somebody with to help me and see I don’t fall. If I fall, I’ll break my bones, and if I break my bones…very limiting beliefs that I know recognize for what they are and why they are there. Also very limiting is my belief that I won’t be able to visit the UK again because of the phobia and financial issues.I’m a retired schoolteacher living on a pension. This phobia of mine got very strong after my husband’s death and two surgeries I underwent last December.
Looking forward to your next video and wishing you all the best,

Wow, those are some powerful questions. I would want to own a lovely home on the Southern California coastline. I would know when I had it, because I would wake up to the sound of crashing Pacific surf and the screeching of seagulls outside my window. I would climb out of my California King freeflow waterbed and throw open the window to the fragrance of the ocean and the temperate breeze coming through my window. I would want my own hypnosis program. I would know I had it when I wake up to my assistant placing a tray on my bed containing a fabulous breakfast and, as I sip my cappacino, reminding me to dress in something comfortable for my midmorning flight to my show in Houston, or Boston or wherever I happen to be going that day. I would know by the joyful feeling when one of my audience comes up and hugs me, telling me that I’ve been a help and a blessing, and that my CDs have helped ease the pain of a loved one at home.
I would want to have my body in excellent physical condition, and the lines disappeared from my forehead. I would know I had it when my husband grins to see the longing look on a young man, as he regards me on stage, and when I look in the mirror and feel a joyful confidence that I look my best in years. I would know when I can walk into a high-end shop and buy stunning clothing right off the rack.
It’s okay if I don’t get it, even though it would please me when I do.
It doesn’t mean anything about me, whether I get it or not. It’s fun to pretend in my mind that I’m there, front and center, and fully loving every instant of it. That’s the bemused look I have on my face during a dull sermon or a boring class. Fortunately, Jamie, none of your classes are boring. You rock.

So far — I’m just very glad I took the step (yes, simple, wasn’t it?) and watched the vid – ‘actually, ran it several times as I’m doing other stuff at the same time) – you have a great story-teller manner and very comfortable approach. But some bits I’m going to have to jot down and work on …

I am interested in the way you said you let your subconscious communicate with the bouncer to get the desired outcome. This technique is also called ‘winging it’ often used by speakers at seminars. Some outcomes are great and some are hopeless.

How do you know your subconscious will communicate to get the desired outcome for the conscious? The subconscious may have the desired outcome to give the conscious a smack in the face. I know, I hit my head a few times until I realised what was going on. I am sure you may have had a similar experience.

There may be a fine line between the touchy feely new age process and an excellent communication process. Good on you for putting it out there and asking for feedback.

    Hi Jamie,

I have been practising NLP for the last year, but previous to that I have always been interesed in the subconscious mind and what it can achieve for us. I am a holistic dietics/nutritionist, have been recently using your salad cards in my consultations with clients in my workplace, you also mentioned somewhere along the line to watch the eyes and the body movements, and minic their postures, I have just been truly amazed at the information they are giving me. Its quite uncanny, you really do not have to do much work at all. Its so simple to build up a rapour with your client, and you can physically see them changing even before they leave the office. This is one area that I have always been interested in, but as I watched your video regarding limiting beliefs I can identify that I have those limiting beliefs in some area’s of my life that need work on. Client have asked me “Are you a counsellour” “Well you should be, as you are very good” so now I have to ask the questions?

Over the years I have changed a number of beliefs about myself, and I love the way you spoke about our Maps, and that our maps are out of touch with the reality of the situation, which is quite true, but as you say there is always a positive intention thats behind it, the video has raised more questions for me which I find very interesting and look forward to putting into practise the questions that you have armed me with. Very good work, loved the piece about the radio station interviewee.

    Hi Jamie,
Thanks so much for this vid. It is excellent. When you asked the questions related to what I want, a lot of ideas came up, linked to comfort and ease and space and fresh air. When you asked the question related to the limiting belief, (the ‘I can’t') I couldn’t think of anything, but I have a feeling why…I think I trained myself not to ever think/feel ‘I can’t’ and I think I’m actually scared of feeling ‘I can’t', coz it is linked to a feeling of panic and feeling very incompetent, which I can’t stand to feel. However at the same time, I don’t know or won’t allow to surface ‘what I want’ (or even if I have ideas about what I want, the drive or physical feeling of being charged up or motivated about ‘getting it’ is missing…so ideas abound but the level of feeling is missing…I think my script is damn clever, coz I’ve even adapted my inner voice to saying ‘I choose not to do x or y because I don’t feel like doing it/want to do it’ Yet at the same time, I’m not happy/satisfied…Any advice? (Or anyone else reading this got advice?)

Thanks again for your generosity and contagious spirit
    All the best

    Hi Jamie
Thank you so much for sharing your conversational belief change ‘tips’. I have been on your email list for about 2 years and altho I don’t keep up quite as much as I would like sometimes, I have posted many of my favs on walls thruout the house and am always sharing them with others.
I am a voice teacher and learned long ago that if a student says ‘I can’t’ then they won’t. With every new student I share the ‘I can’t’ rule… you can swear all you want to, but if you say ‘I can’t', I’ll give you a knuckle sandwich. :-) It has saved me a lot of grief over the years because I am not fighting erroneous beliefs about singing, of which, there are many!
And there is the rub… I must figure out what my ‘I can’t’ is even though I don’t use ‘I can’t’ anymore. I’m not worried though, I’m SURE I’ll find it.
    Thanks again.

Great stuff. Thinking of your slight of mouth used on the bouncer, I know that asking a question is a good way to disrupt his pattern, while the phrase ‘have to happen’ and ‘we are meeting inside’ seems like a nice covert command to the bouncer’s unconscious. By acknowledging his belief that he can’t let you in you are mirroring him and developing a rapport which will also make him more susceptible to your suggestion. The way this is put together is brilliant and provides a good template and example by which I could develop my own slights of mouth to be used in various situations.

    Thanks!

I have your card set, two of the “unpacked” recordings, and now this. Years ago I took a 20-day NLP training course and have a “Practitioner” certificate. NLP ideas and procedures have been useful to me as a teacher and as a music director. Most of the time, I work with groups in a classroom or singers in a chorus and work to adapt and use NLP patterns of speech in those settings.

Rapport with a group is important to me and I find it easy to achieve usually. Belief change for singers is ultra important. Techniques for working with groups is an area that I would appreciate receiving more input about.

    Hi Jamie,

Thanks for the sixteen pages of awesome stuff. Though the NLP requires constant practice, it is not necessary to be expert to start experimenting and evolving what fits oneself. Since a year or so, I have been practicing what I learnt earlier through questioning or through visulisation.
To my surprise, I have been using this quite effectively in day to day dealings with good success. At times am surprised that I could recognise what’s happening in the other person quite with out making any effort ( at times even before starting conversation- just by observing – I don’t know may be intuitively). How can one explain this?
    I wonder

But there are goals that keep us alive, get us to work and let us enjoy effort in the way that they challenge us and create new goals afterwards, we only forget about that because this fear is there?

I’ve just read your conversational belief change using Sleight of Mouth – thanks again for giving us some great free resources again. Really sorry that I can’t make the teleclass tonight – otherwise engaged.

Going back to the Sleght of Mouth – this is a very straightforward version of Robert Dilt’s sleight of mouth and one that everyone that wants to change a limiting belief can use. I really liked that you have put the Intention as the 3rd question, I find that vey powerful. I was surprised that the Bonus presuppose was last, however I understand your comment re active position. I also noticed that you used the Reality Strategy twice – for what purpose?

A very nice, succinct use of Sleight of Mouth Jamie and very well explained – Thanks

I am unfortunately unable to attend this one because I will be at work in the afternoon at the time of your teleconference.

Hopefully you will be recording it and making it available for download as an MP3.

    Hi Jamie,

Thank you for this entire excellent free staff you are sharing. I learn a lot and it is very inspiring effective and professional.
My question is- I feel overloaded by information, techniques and things I want to practice. How can you help me with this? Is this a matter of my changing perception or beliefs? What
Is the most effective practice you recommend for a beginner like me?(I am a NLP Practitioner an I feel in the ‘ground floor’ of this endless knowledge..)

    Thank You
    Sabina

    Hello Jamie

Flamtastic! Thank You so much for this videod “expose”.

It’s facinating to see the tie up with hypnotherapy and the Byron Katie work.etc I used SOM with a client today and then took her into a deep relaxation and anchored the change…Brilliant and such a time saver
Is ithere a chance of your showing us more involving relationships, and ADHD (much as I dislike giving dis eases a title because of the negative beliefs that arise from the name)
Stress especially in todays financial climate and sexual dis orders…and ways to deal with people who are grieving and hurting ..and who after a lengthy period of time, just are battling to get to the next step up from it.
    Many thanks
    Merle

The conversation slight of mouth 16 page booklet was great and I did download.
The web seminar was great on the audio but I could not get the viideo kept saying password or email address was wrong.
From what you were saying and the questions you were asking I could see in my minds eye how a diagram could help the structure of the learning and application of the work.
There is also Kelly’s theory of constructs could help the understanding from both client and coach allow the shift to occur. It would also help the learning.
I need to have some more thoughts and get back to you.
    Regards Vic

    Hi Jamie,

I enjoyed your video until it stopped at 3:49!

You say something about in 1996 and then–

FYI: I was watching this on Firefox on a Mac.

Would love to see the rest of the video. I’m
really enjoying them and am learning a lot.

Well, I went over to Safari and it played just fine.

And I realized I actually saw it a few days ago (must have been on Safari),
and it’s GREAT. I thought this was a different one at first…

Among other things, thanks for sharing the book suggestions.

I’ll go out and get some of those ;-)

    Jamie,

NLP was just a vague concept before I stumbled across your website some months ago. I am going through some major life changes now, and your happiness tips, and other resources have been very helpful in the transition. This video gave me some really incredible things to think about and internal dialogues to have with my limiting beliefs. You have been a source of encouragement for me, and also a source of insight, both of which are needed at this time.

Keep up the good work! It is obvious you are chasing your dreams and your passions, and the ripples from your success are benefiting many others you don’t know or intend to benefit, even here across the pond in America. Of course, in the end, benefits will come to you, and I certainly wish them to come sooner rather than later!

    Thank you.

Hi Jamie, I loved the video and the book as well. Thank you. I am currently studying NLP practitioner course( Distance learning as there is no NLP courses where I live). The video helped so much.
My questions were: What do I want: want to be busy and make more money. How will I know I’ve got it – when I get more clients. I can’t make money positive intention- can’t think of it. Where am I going wrong?????.

    Thanks again

    Hi.

I’ve really been getting into NLP over the last year or so, I’ve been following your NLP videos and articles. Very powerful!

I just wanted to add something to this video, a turbo sort-of …

I’m currently reading Michael Hall’s book called Figuring Out People, it’s truly amazing and it makes changing belief patterns so much easier.

Can you please post us a list of your top 10 book recommendations, specifically for belief change?

I really like these blog do-dads. Very user friendly. Ive been following your work for a long while now and frequently recommend your site to anyone I know who has an NLP interest.
The blogs are easier for me to remember than the tips that are written down-as bits of conversation tend to force themselves back into my brain at critical moments. And to have something this useful doing it is excellent! Would really love some negotiation techniques I could use in business situations.
Great Stuff! Cant wait for the next one.

It is such a blessing to have found you.

What I love about all you do is that it bespeaks of your generosity, your passion and your deep connection to what matters. This makes you truly awesome. You know how to allow the great YOU to operate through you. and you do it magnificently.

The moment I connected with you I knew this instinctively…so even if you had nothing to say, a blessing would be there anyway!!

I truly love your stuff..and am learning heaps.

I know about the map is not the territory , but your easy explanationns with simple examples helped me to really see how I experienced it myself. I also loved your last question about how would it be if a miracle would happen, it’s a wonderful question that reveals in me many uncovered things. I also found out how I had some beleifs that hindered me in many ways, however I was not conscious that I really had some of them in my unconscious. Many thanks for your generosity.

    Keep shining,

    Hi Jamie,

when addressing a question asked on this blog, you said that one shouldn’t try to help people that do not want to be helped, isn’t it?

What about children then? I have stubborn children that should be “coached”, but, obviously, they fight any such attempt :-)
